Mechanical sanitation

After the arrival of the Red Palm Weevil, more than 300,000 palm trees were cut down and destroyed, many of them could have been saved if mechanical sanitation had been practiced. This consists of a cleaning operation in the meristem of the palm tree, eliminating all the living forms of weevil, as well as the remains of decomposing fibers and galleries made by the larvae.

Palmera Sana was a pioneer in the application of this technique and after some demonstration sessions organized in Marbella in 2008 in collaboration with the Marbella City Council and the research center of the Elche Phoenix Station, the Junta de Andalucía changed the protocol of action against the Red palm weevil advising this practice.

Since 2008 we have carried out more than 600 clean-ups with a success rate of 90%

Integrated Pest Management
